MM EASY POINT 400

1. Product description

A range of mineral dry bagged pointing mortars based on Hydraulic Lime binders and aggregates, suitable for use with hand held mechanical pointing equipment in a variety of joint widths and depths for all masonry structures.

2.General application and uses

Masons Mortar Ltd EASY POINT 400 is especially suitable for pointing masonry, natural stone and brick where the joints widths vary between 5mm to 25mm and where joint depths vary between 10-100mm. With excellent vapour permeability, low modulus of elasticity and adequate strength, the mortars can be delivered deep into joints to depths in excess of 100mm with Masons Mortar Ltd hand held air powered hopper pointing equipment or using conventional tools. Used for the conservation, restoration and repair of traditionally constructed mass masonry walls which are being flush pointed or rendered and is completely compatible with all lime renders and is recommended for filling mortar joints ahead of using Façade 400 and Façade 400 CR

3.Material Properties

See typical Mortar Performance chart for physical properties for the range of Masons Mortar ready mixed Lime mortars

4.Application instructions

Ambient and materials / surface temperature range to be within 50C – 300C – out with these ranges consult our technical department. Use control methods to maintain ambient conditions until mortar is sufficiently cured

5.Repointing and joint filling,

  • Remove, cut out defective mortar.
  • Clean away all loose and friable materials, remove all dust and deleterious materials and any biological growth, dampen retained, old mortar and masonry to control suction
  • Dense impervious masonry, dampen old mortar, no standing water on masonry, remove with air or dry sponge / cloth or brush.
  • All backgrounds must be free of salts, dust, loose or friable materials
  • Power wash, if required to remove soiling or vegetation at joint interface, avoid staining high suction masonry by pre-wetting before cleaning out joints. Use biocide treatments as required

6.Mixing

  • For small quantities use hand held drill or whisk type mixer. Mix dry powder into specified water content gradually, start wet, work to drier consistency For larger mixes pan mixers, paddle mixers are best,. Do not short mix, short mixing requires greater water content and will lead to bleed or shrinkage. Over mixing can result in weaker mortar. Mix for 3-4 minutes with drill and paddle mixers. For free fall mixers mix 4-5 minutes. Avoid hand mixing.

7.Application Guidelines – General

  • Apply to properly prepared backgrounds
  • Apply in accordance with general site specifications
  • Allow adequate curing times for prevailing conditions

8.Consumption

  • 1, 15 KG Bag of Masons Mortar Ltd Dry Bagged Ready To Mix Easy Point 400 Pointing Mortar will yield about 18 litres of mix
  • 32 lineal metres of joint at 5mm x 100mm will require 18 litres of mortar approximately 1 bag

9.Clean up

  • Wash tools with clean water immediately after use

10.Colour matched or colour packs

  • As supplied, either through coloured or with colour pack for onsite mixing
  • Through coloured dry bagged product, take materials as required and mix with water, colour will remain consistent throughout the depth of the material
  • Colour packs can be supplied for mixing with full bags of all our Dry Bagged Ready Mixed Mortars
  • Empty the colour pack into the mix water prior to adding the mortar, ensure water content has been measured accurately in accordance with the product instructions, dispose of colour packaging thoughtfully
  • Proper protection must be maintained throughout the curing process, colour variation may occur if differential hydration takes place. After placing keep work protected from strong sunlight, drying winds, rain and frost until properly cured.
  • Fine joint mortar is generally naturally white or off white.
